Salt Painting

You can use any design to create salt art pictures. They key to their success though is keeping the lines simple.

1. Have the children squeeze glue on all of the lines.
2. Let a teacher dip the glue designs into a tub that is filled with salt so that all of the glue is covered with salt.
3. Give each child a small watercolor paintbrush.
4. Put small amounts of liquid watercolor in ice cube containers.
5. Let the children dip their paintbrush in a color and then "touch" it gently on the salt. They will notice that the salt will make the color spread and mix with adjacent colors creating a very colorful picture.

*Special Note: Regular Elmer's glue works better for this project than washable school glue does. Make sure you use cardstock paper.

Fabulous Fall Leaves

This is a great group art project where the children work together to paint a large paper using fall colors. It is amazing how much fun they have doing it. The success of the project is in how you set it up!

1. Tape a large paper to cover the table.
2. Give every child a paint shirt and a textured rolling paintbrush. (These are found in Discount School Supply).
3. To make this project work, you need to teach the children how to hold their paintbrushes UP in the air while you pour the paint and how to put their paintbrushes on the paper when you say GO! So, practice this a few times before you actually pour the paint.
4. Have the children hold their paintbrushes UP and quickly pour a very small amount of one color on the paper. Say GO and let them spread it as fast as they can. Say STOP and do a new color.
5. When the paint is dry you may cut these out into leaf shapes to create very colorful leaves.

Humpty Dumpty

We did this project on Nursery Rhyme day.

1. Give each child a piece of construction paper.
2. Let them tear a piece of another color of paper in half. This will be the wall. Glue it on.
3. Have the child draw Humpty Dumpty's shape and then tear strips of white papers into small pieces and glue them on.
4. Glue on two wiggle eyes.
5. Fold the Humpty page right on the wall line and cut two little triangles so the child's fingers can fit through to be his feet.

Easel Circles Art

This easel art project was created by simply cutting many shapes and colors of circles and placing them in the art easel. The children were given no instructions on what to do with the circles. However, we found that they created their art by placing the circles in sequential order from largest to smallest.
